Markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has approved the name of Ashish Kumar Chauhan for the post of MD and CEO of National Stock Exchange (NSE). Chauhan is currently the MD and CEO of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The tenure of former NSE MD and CEO Vikram Limaye ended on July 16, after which Chauhan will be given the command of the country’s largest stock exchange NSE.
SEBI was suggested by NSE two names for the post of MD and CEO, out of which sources said that Chauhan’s name was approved. After this, now only NSE is yet to get approval for this from its shareholders. At the same time, a four-member committee has been constituted to understand the responsibility of the post of CEO and MD of NSE, which includes NSE’s Group CFO and Head of Corporate Affairs Yatrik Vin, Chief Regulatory Officer Priya Subramaniam, Chief Enterprise Risk and The names of Information Security Officer Somasundaram KS and Chief Technology and Operations Officer Shiv Bhasin are included.
Career of Ashish Kumar Chauhan: Ashish Kumar Chauhan has studied in the country’s top educational institute IITs and IIMs. He started his career as a banker with IDBI Bank, after which he was inducted as a member of the founding team by RH Patil, considered NSE founder. He was working in NSE from 1993 to 2000.
Chauhan joined Reliance Group in 2000. Reliance has held key positions such as its chairman and CIO. Chauhan has been the CEO of Reliance’s IPL team Mumbai Indians. After this, in 2009, Chauhan joined BSE. He has been instrumental in bringing the BSE IPO in 2017.
Challenges before Chouhan: There will be many challenges after Chouhan becomes MD and CEO. Because at present, the investigation of the scam from the NSC co-location of former NSE MD and CEO Chitra Ramakrishna and Anand Subramaniam is going on, in which new revelations are being made every day. With this, it will also be a big challenge for them to make NSEI’s IPO successful in the coming times.
