New Delhi. The demand for a new president was gaining momentum in the country’s oldest party Congress for a long time. In the face of the revolt in the party and the displeasure of senior leaders, the high command finally had to bow down and the program for the election of the Congress President was announced. The process of filing nomination papers for the election of the President was started from 24th September and continued till the last day of September i.e. 30th. Nomination papers can be withdrawn till 8th of this month. If there is more than one candidate for this post, the voting will be held on October 17, the results of which will be declared on October 19.
Even though the high command is trying to end the infighting in the party by getting the president’s post, but the opposite has been seen. When the name of the Chief Minister of Rajasthan surfaced for the post of party president, it was believed that Ashok Gehlot would take over as the party president, but in the meantime a big ruckus arose in Rajasthan. As soon as the possibility of Ashok Gehlot becoming the party president came to the fore, the demand for making Sachin Pilot the CM started coming up in the state (Rajasthan). Seeing this demand of the Pilot faction, the Gehlot faction also came forward and said that if Sachin Pilot becomes the Chief Minister of the state, then he will resign completely.
The name of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who was in the forefront of the race for the post of president, disappeared from this list like a donkey missing horns from his head. CM Gehlot himself came out and announced that he would not be a part of the election for the post of party president. Now on Sunday, for the first time, Ashok Gehlot has openly put forth the reason for the displeasure of the rebel MLAs. After paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at a function, when Ashok Gehlot is asked that ‘is everything okay’. So Gehlot responds by saying that ‘for the first time in the history of Congress, it happened that a one-line resolution could not be passed. I am also sorry that the resolution could not be passed. That’s why I also apologized, but why this situation happened?’
Targeting the Sachin Pilot group
Taking a jibe at the Pilot faction, Ashok Gehlot said, ‘When I had sent State Congress President Govind Dotasara to convince the MLAs, they (rebel MLAs) were very angry that I had promised them in 2020 that I I will be your guardian. The MLAs were angry that what would happen to them if they lived alone in Rajasthan? As the leader of the legislature party, I take responsibility for what happened. For your information here, let us tell you that Ashok Gehlot has mentioned the year 2020 because in the same year, the then Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot revolted with 18 MLAs after getting angry with Chief Minister Gehlot. After this rebellion, he went to Manesar in Haryana with his supporters. However, after the intervention of the party high command at that time, the matter could be resolved and Pilot returned to the party.
