Dausa. There is good news for Dausa and Sawai Madhopur districts. Due to heavy rains in both the districts, Asia’s largest Kachha Morel Dam has been filled to the brim. A 6-inch sheet of water is flowing on it. When the sheet started flowing on the Morel Dam, people from nearby areas started reaching there for picnic. The administration has completely come on alert mode regarding this. Policemen have been deployed as a precaution to prevent any kind of accident there. Lalsot SDM Narendra Meena himself reached there on Wednesday and took stock of the situation.
No person is being allowed to go near the overflow dam. Along with this, the movement of vehicles around the dam has also been banned. Only pedestrians can come near the dam and admire the beauty of the dam. But no one is allowed to go near the overflow and take a bath or have fun. Lalsot SDM Narendra Meena said that this dam is spread over an area of 4 kilometers. It is a completely earthen dam. There was a report of leakage in this dam on Wednesday but it has been repaired. Additional soil has also been put around the dam. Along with this, people are also being advised not to go to the overflow area and be careful. This is the largest dam among all the earthen dams of all the countries of Asia.
Water from Morel Dam goes into canals
Farmers of Sawai Madhopur and Dausa’s Lalsot area get irrigation water through canal from Morel Dam. Hundreds of farmers are benefited from this dam. Water from Morel Dam goes into canals. There are two canals in Morel Dam. Main Canal and Eastern Canal. The length of the main canal and its minor canals is 105.45 kilometers. In this, the length of the main canal is 28.60 kilometers. There are 19 minor canals in the main canal. Their length is 76.85 kilometers. Its total irrigated area (CCA) is 12 thousand 964 hectares of land. 55 villages of Baunli and Malarna Dungar get water from this.
The eastern canal is maintained at a height of 6 feet
Similarly, the Eastern Canal is built at a height of 6 feet. The length of the Eastern Main Canal and its minor canals is 53.32 kilometers. The length of the main canal is 31.79 kilometers. It has 10 minor canals. Their length is 21.53 kilometers. The irrigated area of this canal is 6 thousand 705 hectares of land. 28 villages get water from this. 13 villages of Lalsot in Dausa district have got water from Morel Dam. While 15 villages of Bamanwas Tehsil of Sawai Madhopur are benefited from this. The Eastern Canal is controlled by the Dausa Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Department. While the main canal is controlled by the Sawai Madhopur Executive Engineer.
Morel Dam was built in 1952
Morel Dam was built in 1952. It is located on Morel River near Kankaria village of Lalsot in Dausa district. It is built on Dausa-Sawaimadhopur road, 17 km away from Lalsot town. Morel River is a tributary of Banas River. Morel River meets Banas River near Malarna Dungar Railway Station. The length of the dam is 5 thousand 364 meters. Its total filling capacity is 30 feet. The filling capacity of the dam is 2707 MC feet. It has 2496 MC feet live and 211 MC feet dead storage.
In 1984 this dam was broken in a flood
The bed of this dam is in Dausa district, but its water benefits 70 villages of Sawai Madhopur. Its water is released only for irrigation. It has overflowed for the second time after 5 years. Earlier, the dam had overflowed in 2019. In 2014, it was filled with more than 26 feet of water. Whereas in 1984, this dam was broken in a flood. During that time, water entered many villages. In such a situation, this time again, due to the full filling of the dam, there is an atmosphere of panic in the surrounding villages.
