The counting of votes for the civic elections held for 977 wards of 80 municipalities in Assam is underway. According to the data released by the State Election Commission, 2,500 candidates had contested, whose fate will be decided today. Candidates from 57 wards have already been declared winners as they were unopposed.
BJP ahead in 548 seats till 11 am
According to the Assam State Election Commission, BJP is leading in 548 out of 977 wards till 11 am. While Congress is leading in 61 wards and others in 125 wards.
BJP is far ahead, Congress’s bad condition
According to the Assam State Election Commission till 9 am, BJP is leading in 296 wards while Congress is leading in 33 wards and another 62 wards.
EVMs used for the first time in Assam civic polls
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are being used for the first time in the history of civic polls in the state in the municipal elections held on Sunday. More than 70 percent voter turnout took place. Over 16 lakh voters, including 8,41,534 women and 17 transgenders, were eligible to vote in the civic body elections.
