A Youth Congress leader in Assam has decided to quit politics and become an extremist. It is reported that Youth Congress Vice President of Tinsukia district Janardan Gogoi has joined the banned separatist organization United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent). He has given this information through a Facebook post. Recently there were reports that a large number of youths are leaving their homes and joining the militant organization.
According to a Times of India report, Gogoi, in a Facebook post written to his wife, told that he has joined the ULFA at the hideout of the Myanmar-based organisation. The 44-year-old leader of Saadia town wrote on Facebook for wife Reema, “Can’t wait to see our own people devastated, because they are helpless in their own state… to organize our culture, our language and identity.” It is being erased in some way.
State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that recently 47 ‘boys and girls’ have joined ULFA(I). But many seniors have left the organization. Sarma has from time to time asked the youth not to join the banned organisation. DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahant has expressed apprehension that many missing youths have become ULFA-I rebels.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has said that due to unemployment, people are getting upset and becoming militants. According to the report, the police say that ULFA-I is using online platforms like Facebook and YouTube to woo the youth. However, Paresh Barua has denied that there is any campaign for the recruitment.
