At what time will Vinesh Phogat’s appeal be heard in CAS, Government of India has appointed Harish Salve as lawyer

New Delhi. Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) demanding a silver medal after being disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024. The dates for hearing on her appeal have been extended several times so far, but now it is reported that the final hearing on Vinesh’s appeal will be held on August 9. Vinesh Phogat had appealed to CAS to award her a silver medal in women’s 50 kg weight category wrestling. CAS accepted her appeal and asked Vinesh to appoint her lawyer. After this, the Government of India also intervened in the matter and advised Vinesh to appoint senior Supreme Court lawyer Harish Salve as her representative. The Government of India believes that Harish Salve’s expertise can prove beneficial for this case.

The process of appointing Harish Salve as a lawyer has started. CAS had given Vinesh time till 9:30 pm on August 9 to choose her lawyer as per Indian time. Meanwhile, CAS has extended the date of hearing of Vinesh’s appeal to 1:30 pm on August 9. Two major appeals were made by Vinesh Phogat. In the first appeal, she had sought permission to participate in the final of the women’s 50 kg weight category, which was rejected. In the second appeal, she demanded to win a joint silver medal in this category, which was accepted by CAS. Now a detailed hearing on this matter will be held on August 9.

It is known that Vinesh Phogat registered a big win by defeating defending Olympic champion, Yui Susaki of Japan in the very first round. After this, she performed brilliantly in the quarter-finals and semi-finals and secured a place in the final. But before the final match, her weight was found to be 100 grams more than the prescribed standards, due to which she was disqualified from Paris Olympics 2024.
