Jaunpur. After Gyanvapi Masjid of Varanasi, Shahi Idgah of Mathura and Bhojshala in Dhar, now controversy has arisen over Atala Masjid in Jaunpur, UP. A lawyer has staked claim by calling Atala Masjid located in Jaunpur as an ancient Hindu temple. The lawyer has claimed in the court of Jaunpur that there was a temple of Atala Mata here. The lawyer also claims that there are religious symbols like trident, flowers etc. in the mosque.
According to the news of News 18, in the suit filed in Jaunpur court, the Hindu side has also cited the report of the Director of Archeology Department and several books in support of its claim. Advocate Ajay Pratap Singh has filed a case against UP Sunni Central Waqf Board and Atala Masjid Management Committee in the court of Civil Judge Senior Division of Jaunpur. The lawyer says that there was Atala Mata temple. According to historical information, this temple was built by Raja Jaychandra Rathod. He says that the first director of the Archaeological Survey of India has written in his report that the order to demolish the Atala Mata temple was given by Firoz Shah Tughlaq. When Hindus protested, they could not break it. Later Ibrahim Shah converted the temple into a mosque. According to lawyer Ajay Pratap Singh, EB Havell, Principal of Calcutta School of Art, has also described the nature of Atala Masjid as Hindu in his book.
Ajay Pratap Singh has said in the suit filed in the court of Jaunpur that there are many reports of the Archaeological Survey Department. There is a photo of Atala Masjid in these reports. Trishul, flowers etc. are seen in the photo. He also says that in the year 1865, the Asiatic Society of Bengal had also reported the presence of a Kalash shape in the Atala Masjid. Let us tell you that Atala Masjid is a protected monument. Hindus have been saying earlier also that Atala Masjid was built by demolishing the temple.
