Lucknow/Anjali Singh Rajput: If you chew any leaf without thinking. Or if you just eat the leaves or flowers found in the Prasad in temples, then be a little careful. Because every leaf and plant cannot be a panacea. Chewing some leaves can even make your breathing stop. In fact, two temple trusts controlled by the Kerala government banned the offering of oleander flowers, a variety of Kaner flower, in temples. These temple trusts look after more than 2500 temples. These flowers, called Arli in the local language, were said to be poisonous. Now the death of a young nurse escalated the matter and the temple committee immediately banned flowers.
This decision to ban flowers in the temple has been taken after the death of 24 year old nurse Surya Surendran. Surendran was ready to leave for a new job in the UK. He carelessly ate some leaves of Kaner tree growing at home. After this she left for the airport, where she showed symptoms of poisoning. At Kochi airport, Surendran had told that the last thing he ate was flower leaves. He died in the hospital within a few days. Poisoning was also confirmed in the post mortem report.
Due to this reason plants and leaves are poisonous
When Dr. Munna Singh, Head of the Department of Botany, Lucknow University, was talked to, he told that plants make potassium cyanide for their protection. In such a situation, this potassium cyanide is considered a very deadly poison. If someone goes inside, he doesn’t even give him time to recover. This immediately stops the person’s breathing. This can also happen in Kaner flower and Dhatura. That is why Dhatura is also called the most poisonous. He told that when animals see green fodder in summer, they eat it. But later he dies. Due to lack of information, people also chew leaves. Many times, even the flowers and leaves included in the Prasad, people do not throw them away but consider them as Prasad and accept them. Whereas doing this should be avoided. Keep those flowers and leaves back with God.
You can consume these leaves
If leaves have to be consumed then they can eat basil leaves and guava leaves. Apart from this, neem leaves can also be consumed. All these are beneficial for health. They do not have any side effects.
