Cummins and Lion added 55 runs
Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon made an unbeaten 55-run partnership for Australia. Captain Cummins scored 44 runs off 73 balls with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes. Lion contributed 16 runs. After falling for 8 wickets for 227 runs, Australia’s defeat was confirmed. But both these bowlers took the team to victory.
It rained in the first session on the last day
Australia needed 174 runs to win and England needed 7 wickets on the last day of the match. The morning session was washed out due to rain which led to an early lunch break. At the start of the match, the umpires gave 67 overs to the teams. Australia started the day at 107 for three. Khawaja and night watchman Scott Boland anchored the innings. Stuart Broad broke this partnership in the eighth over of the day by getting Boland caught by wicketkeeper Johnny Bairstow. Boland played a career-best 20 runs.
In-form Travis Head also could not last long and scored 16 runs before being caught by Joe Root at slip off off-spinner Moeen Ali, leaving Australia at 143 for five. Australia suffered three major setbacks after the tea break. Cameron Green was bowled by Robinson after scoring 28 runs. Ben Stokes dismisses Usman Khawaja, Australia’s biggest wicket blow. Khawaja, who scored a century in the first innings, contributed 65 runs in the second innings. Alex Carey (20) was dismissed by Joe Root.

Even after this, captain Ben Stokes declared the innings on the very first day. The team had a chance to score more. Australia had scored 386 runs in their first innings. Australia were set a target of 281 after England were bundled out for 273 in their second innings.
