A 17-year-old Indian-origin student went to court against the environmental damage and pollution caused by climate change in Australia. Due to this, there has been a stir in the whole country. In the whole case, the Federal Court of Australia has heard that it is the responsibility of the government to protect children from any kind of suffering in future due to climate change. The decision of the court has left the Australian government quite confused.
In May, 17-year-old Indian-origin Anjali Sharma and seven other environmentalist teenagers approached the court in front of the Australian government. Sharma and his group of students had argued that the incidence of forest fires is increasing significantly due to the continuous release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Rivers are getting flooded, the number of storms in the sea has increased. Due to all this, children are getting sick, financial loss and in many cases physical injury and death are also happening.
Apart from this, Anjali and her colleagues had also demanded to stop the Union Minister Susan Lay for allowing the expansion of the coal mine in New South Wales. Although the court had upheld this decision, but it has also asked to take care that no child is hurt by it. This decision of the court had become the center of discussion all over the country.
