New Delhi. Mohammad Zubair, surrounded by allegations of making indecent remarks in the context of Hinduism, is behind bars. Now Patiala House Court has granted bail to Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair. Zubair has been granted bail by the court on a personal bond of Rs 50,000. Additional Sessions Judge Devendra Kumar Jangla pronounced his judgment on Friday. A day earlier on Thursday, the court had reserved the order. Even though the court has granted bail to Zubair, but it has been met with the condition that he will not be able to go out of the country without any permission.
Let us tell you, earlier on July 2, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Sarwaria had rejected Zubair’s bail plea. Mohammad Zubair was arrested on 27th last month. Zubair was accused of hurting religious sentiments. In 2018, the Delhi Police had arrested Zubair for allegedly promoting enmity and hurting religious sentiments with an objectionable tweet. A case was registered against Zubair under section 153/295A of IPC. UP Police has also registered 6 FIRs on Zubair. In a Sitapur case, Zubair has got interim bail from the Supreme Court. Even though Zubair has been granted bail in the Delhi FIR, but still he will not be able to be released from jail. The reason for this is that his remand is already with the UP Police. Another petition has been filed on behalf of Zubair in the SC that all the 6 FIRs of UP Police should be quashed.
7 cases against Zubair in 6 cities
Apart from the FIR in the capital Delhi, cases have also been registered against Mohammad Zubair in Sitapur, Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar, Lakhimpur Kheri and Hathras districts of UP. The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted an SIT to investigate the cases registered against Zubair. Now Mohammad Zubair has appealed to the Supreme Court to quash all the six FIRs registered in the same UP. Earlier, Zubair had applied for quashing of the case registered in Sitapur and also sought protection. On July 12, the Supreme Court had given protection in the Sitapur case till further orders. Now the Supreme Court has extended Zubair’s interim bail till further orders.
Earlier, in the Supreme Court, it was said on behalf of the UP government that they want to file a reply in this matter. The court had given four weeks for this. During the hearing on the petition related to the case registered in Sitapur, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing to September 7 while granting interim bail till further orders.
