Mirpur: The England team, which reached Bangladesh tour, registered a comfortable three-wicket win in the low-scoring first ODI. The host Bangladeshi team, winning the toss and electing to bat first, managed only 209 runs. In response, England scored 212 runs in 48.4 overs in the first eight balls. David Malan, who landed at number three for the British, played a match-winning inning of 114 runs in 145 balls. This was the fourth century of his 16 match short career.
Malan, who played two matches for champions Comilla Victorians in the Bangladesh Premier League, was struggling at 103/5 at one stage. At one point the score had come to 161/7, but Malan shared an unbroken 51-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Adil Rashid and gave his team victory.
Malan said after the match that he also benefited from experience in the Dhaka Premier League, Bangladesh’s List A competition, having played for prime Dholeshwar Sporting Club in 2013–14 and 2014–15, playing 24 matches in the DPL.
Earlier, while bowling, the English bowlers had created panic. After winning the toss, Bangladesh’s batsmen got off to a bad start losing wickets at a rapid rate. No one could last except Najmul Hossain Shanto (58).
