India knows this game, so it is moving very cautiously. Because India has the longest border of about 4,096 kilometers with Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina has accused the US of wanting to occupy St. Martin Island. In between, there was news that it wanted to lease St. Martin Island so that it could build an airbase and a naval base there. The US maintains military relations with Bangladesh. The armies of both countries conduct joint military exercises. But since China is also trying to get closer to Bangladesh, Bangladesh refused to give the island to the US to build an army base. Although US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller has rejected such things, intelligence reports indicate that this has definitely happened. That’s why first he offered many types of temptations to Sheikh Hasina. He also suggested Bangladesh to join the Quad Alliance. But she did not agree. Now it is being said that America itself instigated the rebellion in Bangladesh so that its purpose could be fulfilled. The proof of this is also found in the fact that America has been repeatedly warning the Sheikh Hasina government that the elections are not being fair.
There is also an intention to divide the country
Sheikh Hasina was already aware of this. She knew that America is trying to divide Bangladesh on religious grounds. It wants to create a non-Muslim majority country like East Timor so that its purpose can be fulfilled. Kuki-Chin rebels are helping Christian rebels. They are fighting with the Myanmar army to encourage them. Kuki Chin province of Myanmar, Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh and Mizoram of India can be the border line of this country. More than one million Chin live in Myanmar. 10 lakh Mizos live in Mizoram, five lakh Kukis live in Manipur and tens of thousands of Kukis live in Bangladesh. There is a war going on between the Myanmar army and the Chin people. 80,000 of them are said to be in America. Hasina knew that this could become a big threat one day.
Why is China paying attention?
China wants to expand strategically, in which Bangladesh is an important link. In the last few years, China has supplied Bangladesh with huge quantities of arms and ammunition. Fighter jets, battle tanks and naval frigates, submarines and missile boats come from there. China has invested a lot of money in Bangladesh’s military infrastructure. While China supported Pakistan during the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971, today it considers Bangladesh a reliable ally. Perhaps it is giving more importance to Bangladesh than Pakistan. In 2002, China and Bangladesh signed a major defense agreement. This also included army training and production of army weapons. By 2006, the situation became such that Bangladesh became a big buyer of weapons made in China.
China was happy when America was rejected
When Sheikh Hasina did not allow America to build a military base, China welcomed Sheikh Hasina’s decision. China has emerged as Bangladesh’s biggest trading partner. It has invested more than $25 billion. After Pakistan, Bangladesh is the country where China is investing the most money. It is building bridges, roads, railway tracks, airports and power plants here. It has invested a lot of money in the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project. Most importantly, there is no tariff in China on many products of Bangladesh. Bangladesh imports about 86 percent of its military hardware from China. That is why Bangladesh cannot deny China’s words. This war destroyed Bangladesh.
