Bhopal. Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Thursday appealed to the Center to ensure the safety of Hindus in violence-hit Bangladesh. It also appealed to stop ‘jihadis’ from entering India from there in the guise of refugees. According to media reports, at least 232 people have been killed in violent incidents in Bangladesh since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on Monday. Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister after massive student protests against her rule and she left her country and is currently taking refuge in India.
VHP (Central India Province) Secretary Rajesh Jain said, “We request the Centre to take all possible steps to protect Hindus in Bangladesh as they are being persecuted and their houses and places of worship are being demolished. We demand from the Centre to protect Hindus who are becoming easy targets in the neighbouring country.” He said, “The Centre should also ensure that Jihadis from that country do not infiltrate our border with nefarious intentions under the guise of refugees. Every worker of VHP and Bajrang Dal is ready to stand with the Army and Border Security Force to protect the borders with Bangladesh.”
The VHP’s Madhya Bharat prant includes the Bhopal and Gwalior divisions of Madhya Pradesh. Its central region includes the Bhopal, Malwa and Mahakoshal prants (regions) of Madhya Pradesh and the state of Chhattisgarh. Jain said, “If the Centre asks us, we are ready to assist the security forces on the troubled border with Bangladesh.”
He claimed, ‘At the time of partition, the number of Hindus in Bangladesh was 32 percent, which has reduced to only eight percent due to the persecution and riots by Jihadis.’
He said that clashes and violence were being reported from almost all districts of the neighbouring country. The VHP leader claimed, ‘The fundamentalists are targeting cremation grounds and damaging temples and houses.’
Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus was appointed head of Bangladesh’s interim government on Tuesday after President Mohammad Shahabuddin dissolved parliament. Yunus promised a government that would protect its citizens.
