Bangladesh President Dissolves (Symbolic Picture)
Dhaka: The situation in India’s neighboring country Bangladesh is changing rapidly. Amidst the ongoing violence in the country, President Mohammad Shahabuddin has dissolved the Parliament. Also, the country’s former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has also been released. On Tuesday, the protesting students in Bangladesh had given an ultimatum to dissolve the Parliament by 3 pm. Apart from this, the process of releasing the people arrested between July 1 and August has started and many people have already been released. The President’s move to dissolve the Parliament has cleared the way for fresh elections in the country. More than 100 people have died in incidents of violence across the country amid the chaos created there after Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister of Bangladesh on Monday and left the country. India has a keen eye
India is monitoring the situation in Bangladesh regarding minorities and is in “close and constant” contact with the Indian community there through its diplomatic missions. In a statement in the Rajya Sabha, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also informed about former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s request to visit India “at the moment” on “very short notice”. He said that India has instructed its border security forces to remain extremely vigilant in view of this complex and still volatile situation in the neighboring country.
All political parties expressed concern
Jaishankar said, “Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman addressed the nation on August 5 and talked about taking responsibility and forming an interim government. We are in close and constant contact with the Indian community in Bangladesh through our diplomatic missions.” He said that India is also monitoring the situation regarding the condition of minorities. He said that India has deep relations with Bangladesh for decades, the situation there has also caused concern here. He said that the situation there started deteriorating from June and this process is continuing till now. He said that whatever happened in the neighboring country, its one-point agenda was that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should resign. He said that all political parties have expressed concern about violence and instability in Bangladesh.
