Dhaka: Bangladesh’s newly formed interim government on Friday stressed the need to maintain “balance” in Dhaka’s relations with “big countries”. Foreign Affairs Adviser and former Foreign Secretary Mohammad Touhid Hossain told reporters here that restoring law and order is the main priority of the interim government at the moment, and other tasks will follow once the first goal is achieved, UNB news agency reported. He also said Bangladesh needs to maintain good relations with all countries. “We want to have good relations with everyone. We need to maintain balance in relations with big countries,” Hossain said without naming any country.
Interim government formed in Bangladesh
Nobel Prize-winning economist Muhammad Yunus (84) was sworn in as the head of Bangladesh’s interim government on Thursday. Yunus was appointed the head of the interim government after President Mohammad Shahabuddin dissolved Parliament on Tuesday. Earlier, Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister on Monday and left the country amid widespread protests against the reservation system in jobs.
PM Modi congratulated
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Muhammad Yunus who was sworn in as the head of the interim government in Bangladesh and expressed hope that the situation in the country would soon return to normal and the safety of Hindus and other minority communities would be ensured.
Know the stance of China and EU
Welcoming the formation of an interim government led by Yunus in Bangladesh, China on Friday said Beijing is ready to advance the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries. The US and the European Union (EU) have also expressed their willingness to work together with Bangladesh. (Language)
