Lok Sabha Election 2024: The process of leaders changing sides before the Lok Sabha elections continues. Many leaders are leaving their party and looking for future in other political parties. There is a long list of leaders from other parties who have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Even before the general elections, big leaders of many political parties including Congress, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samajwadi Party have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. The situation was more or less similar not only in 2024 but also in 2019 general elections. So let us tell you which leader has joined which party.
Naveen Jindal
He has been a big Congress leader and former Union Minister from Haryana. He is also a well-known industrialist of the country. He has been a Congress MP from Kurukshetra, Haryana twice. Became MP for the first time in 2004 and again in 2009. After this he lost the election to BJP candidate in 2014. This time joined BJP. After this, BJP has fielded him from Kurukshetra itself. Naveen Jindal’s joining BJP is the biggest blow for Congress.
Ravneet Singh Bittu
In Punjab too, Congress has suffered a big setback before the Lok Sabha elections. Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu has joined BJP. Ravneet is the grandson of late former CM Beant Singh. Recently, on the arrest of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, he had adopted a different stance from Congress and targeted the Delhi CM. He had posted the X when many big Congress leaders including Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi had come out openly in support of Kejriwal. Talking about Ravneet Singh’s political career, he is a three-time MP. He was elected MP from Ludhiana in 2014 and 2019, while in 2009, Congress gave him the ticket from Anandpur Sahib and he won.
Sita Soren
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA and party supremo Shibu Soren’s elder daughter-in-law Sita Soren has joined BJP. Jama MLA Sita Soren had resigned from the party alleging that she and her family were being ignored. In her resignation letter to party supremo and her father-in-law Shibu Soren, Sita had said that after the death of her husband Durga Soren, the party had failed to provide adequate support to her and her family. BJP has made Sita Soren its candidate from Dumka.
Geeta Koda
Geeta Koda, Congress MP from Singhbhum, Jharkhand and wife of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Geeta Koda joined Congress in 2018. Geeta Koda has also been MLA from Jagannathpur assembly constituency twice. Before this, she was a member of Jai Bharat Equality Party, which was founded by her husband Madhu Koda in 2009.
Ashok Chavan
Senior Congress leader and two-time Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ashok Chavan has also joined BJP. Ashok Chavan is a resident of Aurangabad. Ashok Chavan is the son of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Shankarrao Chavan. Ashok Chavan’s wife Amita is also an MLA. Ashok Chavan started his political career in 1986 as the general secretary of the Maharashtra unit of the Congress Party.
Chhagan Bhujbal
Chhagan Bhujbal has been a senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and a strong OBC face in Maharashtra. Recently, after NCP split into two parts (Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar), Chhagan Bhujbal decided to go with Ajit Pawar led NCP. Chhagan Bhujbal was the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1999 to 2003. Before this, he has been the Minister of Public Works Department and Minister of Home Affairs in the Government of Maharashtra.
milind deora
Senior Maharashtra Congress leader Milind Deora resigned from Congress and joined Eknath Shinde faction’s Shiv Sena. Milind Deora, who became MP at the age of just 27, defeated BJP candidate Jaywantiben Mehta by ten thousand votes in the 2004 elections. After this, Milind Deora also held the seat of Mumbai South constituency in 2009.
Baba Siddiqui
Baba Siddiqui, one of the big leaders of Maharashtra Congress, recently gave a big blow to the Congress by joining NCP. Baba Siddiqui joined Ajit Pawar’s NCP. Baba Siddiqui has been a three-time MLA from Bandra, Mumbai. After joining NCP, Baba had said that there is politics of perception in Congress Party, hence I had to leave it. S Vijaydharani
S Vijayadharani, who was an MLA from Tamil Nadu Congress, has joined BJP. Vijayadharani has been the MLA from Vilavancode constituency of Kanyakumari district since 2021. After joining BJP, he had vented his anger on Congress. He had said that when it comes to leadership in Congress, women do not get the respect they should. There is no platform for women in the Congress party. Whereas Prime Minister Modi brought the law and will soon implement reservation for women. He abolished triple talaq and gave Muslim women equal rights on property.
debasis hero
Former Odisha minister and senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Debasis Nayak joined BJP after resigning from BJD. Debasis Nayak was one of the trusted aides of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Debasis Nayak has been MLA for four consecutive terms in 2000, 2004, 2009 and 2014 from Bari constituency of Jajpur district.
Digambar Kamat
Eight Congress MLAs, including former Goa CM Digambar Kamat and opposition leader Michael Lobo, had joined the BJP in 2022. After joining BJP, Digambar Kamat had said that he had taken permission from God for this. This statement of his was also much discussed.
