New Delhi. 25 thousand 753 teachers and non-teaching staff of West Bengal have got a big relief from the Supreme Court. The apex court put an interim stay on the decision of the Calcutta High Court to cancel the appointment of these teachers. The Supreme Court said that CBI should continue its investigation in the teacher recruitment scam, but should not take any action against teachers and employees. Now the next hearing of the case will be on July 16.
In the recruitment scam, a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra said, if it is possible to separate the eligible and the ineligible then it would not be appropriate to cancel the entire panel. It would be better to throw out those people who have been recruited through corruption. During the hearing, the Supreme Court termed the case as systemic fraud and said that there is a shortage of jobs today. In such a situation, if public trust is lost then nothing will be left. The court also reprimanded and said that the state government had nothing to show whether its officials had maintained the data or not.
Let us tell you that the Calcutta High Court, in its order given on April 22, had canceled these appointments, declaring them illegal due to rigging. Along with this, instructions were also given to these teachers to return the salary received during their tenure of 7-8 years with 12 percent interest. The court had given 6 weeks time for this. Mamata Banerjee government of Bengal has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the decision of the High Court. The Bengal government says that due to this order of the Kolkata High Court, the future of all these teachers and non-teaching staff will be in jeopardy, hence the order should be cancelled.
