Mamta had opposed land acquisition in Singur and Nandigram
Despite this, if someone does not want to give the land, then we will not develop the project except that part, Mamata said. The Chief Minister said that compensation and support are also being offered to those people who live in the area identified for this. They have no legal right over the coal block and any land or building. Some illegal mine owners in the area are misleading the local people, but the offer is great and I don’t think anyone will reject it. Mamata Banerjee, who has supported anti-land acquisition movements in Singur and Nandigram, said the project would provide immense financial help to the state by offering low-cost power for the next 100 years.
Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi said that the government is offering a rehabilitation package of Rs 10,000 crore and has increased the compensation for construction of houses from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh. The size of the houses given to them has been revised from 600 sq ft to 700 sq ft.
He said that the government has also increased another part of the compensation from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh. Dwivedi said that she is giving two per cent compensation to those who lost the land, 100 per cent relief and Rs one lakh as transfer cost. Dwivedi said that the deserving members of the families who lost the land would be given better jobs like constables or Group C employees.
