Chandigarh. Punjab’s nominated Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday met Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the Raj Bhavan here and staked claim to form the Aam Aadmi Party government. He is scheduled to take oath as the 17th Chief Minister of Punjab on March 16.
Earlier on Friday, Mann was elected leader of the AAP Legislature Party at a meeting of party legislators in Mohali near here.
AAP had won a landslide victory in the state by winning 92 seats out of 117.
Mann won from Dhuri by over 58,000 votes.
Mann, in his instruction to the newly elected party MLAs, asked them to spend maximum time in their constituencies and not in the capital Chandigarh and not crave for cabinet berths.
A leader quoted Mann as saying, “We have to work for all the places where we went to seek votes. All MLAs should work in the areas from where they have been elected and not just stay in Chandigarh.”
After registering a thumping victory, Mann has announced that the new cabinet will take oath at Khatkar Kalan, the native village of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, without taking oath at the Raj Bhavan.
Mann, who wears Bhagat Singh’s trademark ‘Basanti’ (yellow) turban, also said that no government office would put up photographs of the chief minister. Instead, Bhagat Singh and B.R. Ambedkar will be installed on the walls of all government offices.
