Jabalpur . The poisonous garbage of Union Carbide in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, will be burnt in 72 days at the plant of Pithampur. The High Court has given permission on the affidavit of the state government.
The union carbide plant in the capital had a poisonous gas leak on the intervening night of two-three December 1984. Due to this thousands of people died. Millions of people were victims of its side effects. The plant had poisoned garbage deposited for the last four decades, which is to be destroyed in the plant in Pithampur on the direction of the High Court.
The process of destroying poisonous waste that reached Pithampur is going on. The matter was heard in the High Court on Thursday and the court has given 72 days to the state government to destroy garbage.
Senior advocate Naman Nagrath has said that during the last hearing, the High Court had directed the government to submit a status report. On this, in the affidavit given by the state government, it has been said that it will take 72 days to burn the waste. It was also said that the plant has a capacity to destroy 270 kg residual in one hour. On this, the court has given 72 days time to the government and the next date is June 30.
Advocate Nagrath further said that some people had applied to the Supreme Court for burning garbage, on which the Supreme Court refused to interfere in any way. The concerned people can give their suggestions to the government.
It is to be known that poisonous waste was taken from Bhopal to Pithampur in closed containers on the direction of the High Court. The local people then protested, but the process of burning waste was started. Initially the experiment has been successful.
