A major aircraft accident was averted at Jaipur Airport in Rajasthan on Friday. A flight from Air India was in crisis when the pilot was informed that the cargo gate of the aircraft was left open immediately after the aircraft took off. This information caused panic among the passengers present in the aircraft and the pilot immediately alerted the air traffic control and informed about the emergency.
According to the information, the incident took place on Friday afternoon, when an Air India aircraft was in the air a few minutes after flying from Jaipur. Then the pilot was indicated that the gate of the cargo compartment was not closed properly. This is a very serious condition because the opening of any part during the flight is the alarm bell for both the safety of the passengers and the stability of the aircraft.
According to sources present in the aircraft, when the passengers came to know about this technical problem, many passengers got nervous and some also started crying. The aircraft crew tried to calm the passengers while handling the situation and the pilot immediately decided to bring the aircraft back to Jaipur Airport.
The aircraft remained in the air for about 18 minutes, during which the pilot completed the process of emergency landing while following all the security protocols. The Airport Authority and Ground Crew were already alerted, due to which the runway was immediately evacuated and fire fighting and medical teams were sent to the spot.
After landing, technical investigation also revealed that there was a technical fault in one engine of the aircraft. However, due to pilot’s understanding and readiness, all the passengers got down from the safe aircraft and no one suffered a physical injury. The statement issued by Air India said that the aircraft will be approved for the flight again only after a technical investigation.
After this incident, the Airport Authority of India and DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) have ordered an inquiry in view of the seriousness of the matter. It is being seen how there was such a big lapse that the cargo gate of the aircraft remained open and it was allowed to fly.
