New Delhi. ED has taken major action in the money laundering case of about Rs 1000 crore from about 2000 home buyers. The investigating agency has arrested the son of Congress MLA from Haryana Dharam Singh Chhaukkar. Dharam Singh Chhaukkar’s son Sikandar Chhaukkar has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate team. The ED team arrested him from Haridwar, Uttarakhand. The ED team is currently bringing him to Delhi after arresting him. Sikandar Chhaukkar is accused of spending crores of rupees of home buyers in buying luxurious cars and vehicles. Sikandar Chhaukkar’s wife is a model by profession.
In August last year, the Enforcement Directorate had raided companies owned and controlled by Congress’s Haryana MLA Dharam Singh Chhokar under money laundering charges. During this period, a total of four luxury cars worth Rs 4 crore, jewelery worth Rs 14.5 lakh and Rs 4.5 lakh in cash were seized. The two-time MLA from Samalkha in Panipat district is the owner and promoter of Mahira Group along with his sons Sikandar and Vikas Chhokar.

MLA’s father is also an accused
An ED spokesperson had then said in his statement, ‘“On July 25, ED conducted a search operation at 11 locations spread across Samalkha, Gurugram and Delhi related to Mahira Infratech Pvt. Ltd. Other Mahira Group companies are owned and controlled by Chhokar, who is the MLA from Samalkha constituency, and his family are accused under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.”
360 crore fraud case
The money laundering case began after the Gurugram Police lodged an FIR against the accused and Sai Aina Farms Pvt Ltd for fraud and forgery. The family is accused of collecting approximately Rs 360 crore from around 2000 home buyers in Gurugram’s Sector 68 under the affordable housing scheme. Home buyers have been protesting against Mahira Group for more than a year, demanding early delivery of homes as promised.
