New Delhi. Muslim religious leaders have also started coming out against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 introduced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. Muslim religious leader Maulana Kalbe Jawad has raised objections to the bill. He said that this bill which has been introduced in the Lok Sabha is completely against the Waqf Board. He said, “This bill is not in the interest of Muslims in any way. The bill introduced by the government is a bill to destroy the Waqf Board. Muslims are going to be harmed by this bill.”
He said that Congress is opposing this bill. I want to ask them that they have got 50% of the Waqf land occupied. They are protesting for show. On the other hand, the BJP government at the center is now following the path shown by Congress. He said that we have sought time from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu against this bill. We will tell them that we do not accept the bill that the government has brought in the Lok Sabha.
While introducing the bill in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that this bill has been introduced to ensure representation and opportunity for women, children and members of backward classes within the Muslim community, who were never given a chance before today. He said that I want to tell this House with full responsibility that whatever provisions are there in this bill, there is no interference in the freedom of any religious institution from Article 25 to 30.
This is not the first time that the Wakf Amendment Bill has been introduced in this House. After independence, the Act was introduced in 1954, after which many amendments were made. We are bringing a bill to amend the 1995 law, because in 2013 such provisions were introduced which changed the form of the Wakf Act 1995.
