150 Years Of Test Cricket: The oldest format in the history of cricket is Test. It is played for five days and every team gets a chance to bowl and bat twice. The real test of players is in Test format. Here the players’ technique, cricket skills and patience are tested. Till now ICC has recognized only 12 countries as Test playing nation. The first Test match in the history of cricket was played between England and Australia in March 1877 at the Melbourne ground. Test cricket will complete 150 years in the year 2027.

In 2027, when Test cricket completes its 150th year, a Test match will be held between England and Australia at the Melbourne ground (the first Test was played on this ground). This big announcement has been made to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Test cricket. Cricket Australia has said that Melbourne Cricket Ground will continue to host the ‘Boxing Day Test’ for the next seven years. Sydney Cricket Ground will host the ‘New Year Test’ for the next seven years. Adelaide Oval Cricket Ground will host the ‘Christmas Test’ for the next seven years. These Test matches can be day-night or only during the day.

Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said: “We are delighted to confirm long-term hosting rights, which provide certainty about some fantastic cricket venues over the next seven years. We believe this program ensures cricket will be played at the best venues at the right times across the country, including prestigious Test matches. We believe this plan provides a fantastic program for cricket fans.”
Australia won the first test
He said that the match to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Test format at the MCG in March 2027 will be a wonderful celebration of the best format of one of the world’s great sports and we cannot wait to host England on that occasion. The first match of the Test format was played between England and Australia. Then the Australian team won the match by 45 runs. Australia’s captain in that match was Dave Gregory. England was led by James Lillywhite.
