New Delhi. Congress said on Friday that it has received new notices from the Income Tax Department. In which he has been asked to pay approximately Rs 1,823 crore. Left parties CPI and CPI-M are also caught in a similar tax trap. CPI said it has received a notice from the Income Tax Department for using the old PAN card. Whereas CPI-M has been sent a notice to recover a fine of Rs 15.59 crore for not declaring bank account in the tax return of 2016-17. As the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections intensifies, the Congress has accused the ruling BJP of using the Income Tax Department to financially weaken the opposition party.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the IT department has now given notice to Congress for a total of Rs 1823 crore and has already withdrawn Rs 135 crore from the party’s accounts. Which the party had collected through crowdsourcing. All the parties are now taking legal recourse and Congress says that its case is to be heard in the Supreme Court on April 1. Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters along with Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh and party treasurer Ajay Maken, he alleged that the BJP was seriously violating income tax laws.
Tech Guru PM Modi! Make technology a means of life, recognized the power of social media in the beginning itself.
Ajay Maken said that political parties have to fill a proforma of Form 24A, in which two basic and important information have to be given – the names and addresses of their donors. Maken claimed that Income Tax officials are not targeting the BJP but only the main opposition Congress for similar violations. He also claimed that he is considering filing a public interest litigation (PIL) in the court against the alleged ‘bias’ of IT officials towards the BJP. Jairam Ramesh said that ‘efforts are being made to weaken Congress economically, but we are not afraid.’
