Big change in India’s Hajj travel policy, now the government will not have 80% quota

New Delhi. Every Muslim pilgrim desires to go to Mecca in Saudi Arabia and perform Hajj, but it is not necessary that everyone can fulfill it. Every year only a limited number of people are allowed to perform Hajj. The main reason for this is the applications coming from all over the world. The Indian government has also presented its new policy for this pilgrimage. Under the new policy of the government, now 70 percent of the total Hajj quota will be with the Indian Hajj Committee. Apart from this, the remaining 30 percent will be given to private tour operators (HGOs).

Under the old rule, the Indian government had a higher quota for Haj pilgrimage. At that time, the government had control over 80 percent of the share, which has been decided to be reduced by 10 percent from this time. It has been made clear that private tour operators will now be given additional seats. These 10 percent seats will be added to their earlier quota of 20 percent. That is, 30 percent seats will remain in private hands.

The quota is determined under the Haj agreement signed every year between India and Saudi Arabia. The new Haj policy states, “The number of Haj quota is allocated to India in the Haj agreement signed every year between the Government of India and Saudi Arabia. Out of the total number of quota, 70 percent will be allocated to the Haj Committee, while 30 percent will be allocated to HGO. Under this year’s Haj policy, it has also been decided that people of 65 years and above will be accompanied by a companion on the Haj pilgrimage and women without ‘mehram’ will continue to get priority as before.
