Big change in Sri Lanka's team, hosts will play against India with a new captain, Liyanage-Karunaratne return


New Delhi. There has been a big change in Sri Lanka’s ODI team before the ODI series against India. Kusal Mendis has been stripped of the captaincy of the ODI team. Charith Aslanka, who is leading the T20 team, has also been made the captain of Sri Lanka’s ODI team. Along with all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne, young batsmen Janith Liyanage and Nishan Madushka have been called up to the team for the ODI series against India.

Sri Lanka’s Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Harin Fernando approved the ODI team on Tuesday. The ODI series between India and Sri Lanka is to be played from August 2. The matches of the three-match ODI series will be played on August 2, 4 and 7 at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Liyanage has played 9 ODIs and Madushka has played 8 Test matches for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka ODI squad: Charith Asalanka (captain), Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Kamindu Mendis, Janith Liyanage, Nishan Madushka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Welalage, Chamika Karunaratne, Mahesh Theekshana, Akila Dhananjaya, Dilshan Madushanka, Mathisha Pathirana, Asith Fernando.
