Aiims New Delhi: All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi is one of the top hospitals in the country. Patients from every corner of India come here for treatment of serious diseases. Whereas some patients from the nearby areas come to AIIMS for minor ailments so that their problems do not increase later. However, AIIMS is now going to take a big decision regarding seeing patients in OPD. Screening OPD will be started in AIIMS. A policy has also been made for this. Soon, new patients coming to AIIMS OPD will also have to undergo screening OPD. Come to the Department of Hospital Administration Prof. in AIIMS. Know from Nirupam Madan what is Screening OPD? Also, how will it be different from normal OPD and how much impact will it have on the patients?
1. When is the screening OPD starting in AIIMS? How will it be different from normal OPD?
Answer: Screening has become a policy for OPD in AIIMS. It is expected to be implemented soon. Screening OPD will be slightly different from normal OPD. This will be for new patients. All patients will be screened, those with minor illnesses will be handled there and those who need in-depth investigation and follow-up or whose illness is serious will be sent to the OPD inside.
2. In which special ward, block or place will the screening be done? Please tell the exact location?
Answer: Screening of patients will not be done in the normal OPDs of AIIMS, a separate place will be fixed for this. Here only new patients will be screened first whether they are coming for tertiary care or are coming to show mild illness. There will be SR in the screening OPD who will decide and provide treatment.
3. What will be the timings of Screening OPD?
Answer: Screening OPD timings will be coordinated with OPD timings. This is being discussed right now.
4. Will the patients of this RP Center also be screened?
Answer: No, at present it is being started for the OPDs of the Medicine Department. There is no such plan for RP Centre.
5. Will a separate appointment for screening OPD be required?
Answer: Appointments will be taken in the same way as they are taken for OPD in AIIMS. When the bus arrives, new patients will have to undergo screening.
6. What will be the benefit of Screening OPD?
Answer: Every day about 20 thousand patients come to AIIMS to see OPD. Some of them come for secondary treatment while some come for primary treatment. If they have minor illness which can be cured by taking them to some other hospital, then such patients can be separated in the screening OPD. Resident doctors will see these patients and those who do not need follow-up, will be sent home after giving treatment there, while those who really need it will be sent further to OPD. By doing this, the crowd in OPD will also be reduced and it will be possible for more serious patients to get treatment.
7. Will screening be done even in emergency?
Answer: In case of emergency at AIIMS, screening is already done. Here the patients are first brought to the emergency and screening is done. These are divided into emergency red, yellow and orange zones. Those who are serious patients are sent to Red Emergency.
