Israel has accepted the ceasefire proposal in Gaza. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Israel has accepted the US-backed proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages and called on Hamas to do the same. However, he did not say whether Israel had taken into account the concerns raised by the extremist group. Blinken’s statement came after a two-and-a-half-hour meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday and he is expected to visit Egypt on Tuesday.
Efforts were being made for several months to reach a settlement
The US, Egypt and Qatar tried for several months to reach an agreement, but the talks repeatedly came to a standstill. He did not say whether Israel’s demands for control over two strategic corridors inside Gaza have been accepted in this agreement proposal. Hamas said that the talks have not even started. Blinken said, “In a very positive meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu today, he supported the proposal.” He said that it is important that Hamas also agrees to this.
US Secretary of State in Israel
US Secretary of State Blinken arrived in Israel on Sunday. His arrival is expected to help reduce regional tensions. A senior official traveling with Blinken said his arrival in the region comes at a crucial time for ceasefire talks and the foreign minister will press all parties to finalize the agreement as soon as possible, so that the suffering of civilians in Gaza can be ended. Shortly before Blinken arrived in Tel Aviv, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a cabinet meeting that there are some areas where Israel can show flexibility and there are some unspecified areas where it will not do so.
