On Monday, Kanchenjunga Express met with a major accident in Darjeeling, West Bengal. 8 people have died in this accident and many people are injured. This accident happened when a freight train hit the Sealdah Kanchenjunga Express from behind between Ranipatara Railway Station and Chattar Hat Junction. The engine of the freight train damaged three bogies of Kanchenjunga Express. On the other hand, another big revelation has come to light about this accident.
The automatic signalling system was out of order
PTI has informed quoting sources that the automatic signalling system between Ranipatara railway station and Chattarhat junction in West Bengal was out of order since 5.50 am. Let us tell you that at this very place, a freight train hit the Sealdah Kanchenjunga Express from behind.
What happens when the automatic signaling system fails?
Actually, train number 13174 Sealdah Kanchenjunga Express left Rangapani station at 8:27 am and stopped between Ranipatara railway station and Chattar Haat from 5:50 am due to the failure of the automatic signaling system. According to an official, when the automatic signaling system fails, the station master issues a written authority called ‘TA 912’. This authority gives the train driver the right to cross all the red signals in that section. Sealdah Kanchenjunga Express also received this authority.
Is this how the accident happened?
A goods train named GFCJ left Rangapani at about the same time at 8:42 am and collided with the rear of train number 13174. As a result, the guard’s coach, two parcel coaches and a general coach derailed. The Railway Board in its initial statement said that the driver of the goods train had violated the signal.
