According to meteorological reports, it is expected to be very hot this time. Therefore the possibility of heat wave has increased. Keeping this in view, special preparations have been made in hospitals. Special arrangements are being made to deal with the heat in the ward. Gaya district is the hottest district of Bihar. Along with heat, heat stroke and heat wave also occur a lot. Four years ago, 50 people had died due to a heat wave in Gaya and surrounding districts. Since then the health department makes special preparations every year. This time too the Gaya district administration is fully prepared to deal with the heat wave. 100 beds have been kept completely ready for this in Magadh Medical College Hospital.
100 bed reserve
Magadh Medical Superintendent Dr. Vinod Shankar Singh said that in view of the heat wave patients in the hospital, 100 beds have been reserved in the pre-fabricated building, so that the heat wave patients can be admitted here. Doctors and staff have been instructed to remain in alert mode. Coolers will also be installed in general wards to deal with the heat as per requirement. If proper arrangements are not made to deal with heat wave, this situation becomes serious and poses a threat to life.
Take care of infants and the elderly
In the summer season, babies, young children and the elderly need to take a lot of care. Children under five years of age sweat less and are not able to get used to the hot environment quickly. Therefore, children can fall ill due to prolonged exposure to sunlight or heatstroke. Everyone needs to be alert to protect themselves from heat stroke.
This is preparation
Gaya DM Dr. Thiagarajan SM has instructed the health department to be fully prepared to deal with heat stroke. Regarding heat wave and AES, JE, instructions have been given to keep the logistics and infrastructure completely intact in all primary health centers. In case of AES, JE, if children are brought to the hospital in a private vehicle from a Panchayat, then the vehicle owner should compulsorily provide fuel and other facilities in the concerned vehicle along with the incentives prescribed by the government. Along with this, he directed to identify two vehicles in every Panchayat and keep them ready on the lines of ambulances so that children suffering from AES and JE can be brought to the hospital for treatment within the golden period itself.
Give first aid immediately
The DM has instructed all the medical officers in charge that it is the responsibility of the primary health center to refer them only after providing first aid if there are cases of heatwave in their area. It is often seen that referral is made without first treatment due to which the patient becomes more critical. Always keep ice packs in the ambulances of all hospitals. Also, keep coolers, ORS powder and other medicines in sufficient quantity in all primary health centres.
