Actually, what happened was that the Karnataka government has given a big shock to the drivers. The Karnataka government has increased the retail sales tax on fuel. After this, petrol has become costlier by Rs 3 and diesel by Rs 3.50 per liter in the state. The government took this decision on Saturday.
According to news agency INS, the new prices have come into effect from Saturday afternoon. Nitish K., Joint Secretary, Finance Department, Government of Karnataka, has issued a notification which will come into effect with immediate effect. Retail sales tax on petrol has been increased by 3.9 percent from 25.92 to 29.84 percent, while tax on diesel has been increased by 4.1 percent from 14.34 to 18.44 percent.
Before the order was issued, the price of a liter of petrol in Bengaluru was Rs 99.84, which has now increased to Rs 102.84 per liter. At the same time, the price of a liter of diesel has increased from Rs 85.93 to Rs 89.43. In rural areas, the price of fuel will be more expensive according to the distance. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had held meetings of various departments after the removal of the Model Code of Conduct after the Lok Sabha elections and the step of increasing fuel prices was taken to raise funds. During the meeting, the Chief Minister asked the officials to work hard to meet the revenue collection targets.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said on Saturday that a new tourism policy is being planned to attract investment in the state. At the ‘Dakshina Bharat Utsav’ event of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Karnataka Tourism Department, he said, “A good tourism policy will be able to attract industrialists and investment. When industrialists perform well, the government gets more revenue, more jobs are created for people and business grows.
