Bilaspur. Bilaspur Health News: A free awareness camp on Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anemia has been organized by Shishu Academy at 11 am on March 4 at IMA Hall, CMD College Chowk. In this, Delhi’s hematologist and bone marrow transplant specialist Dr. Gaurav Khareya will give detailed information about the disease to the parents of children suffering from this disease. Also, solutions to the misconceptions and problems related to bone marrow transplantation will be given.
Thalassemia is 3.4 percent of the total population of India and about one million children are suffering from this disease. The secretary of the institution, Dr Namita Srivastava told that Thalassemia is a genetically inherited blood disease from the parents to the children. Due to this disease, there is a disturbance in the hemoglobin production process of the body, due to which the symptoms of anemia appear. In this disease, red blood cells are not produced in the body and the few which are made remain only for a short period.
It is recognized only after three months of age. In this, there is a severe shortage of blood in the body of the patient, due to which he needs to be given external blood transfusions again and again. This disease is not only painful for the patient. Rather, the chain of suffering continues for the whole family. Due to this disease being genetic, it continues in the family from generation to generation. For complete information about this disease and to avoid Thalassemia and sickle cell anemia before marriage, the health horoscope of the boy and the girl should be matched.
If the parents are suffering from thalassemia or sickle cell anaemia, then it can be detected if the baby does not have this disease by examining it within the first 3 to 4 months of pregnancy. By taking special precautions, we can prevent it from passing on to the next generation. There are also possibilities of stem cell treatment for Thalassemia. Apart from this, Bone Marrow Donor Registry has now been opened in India for bone marrow transplant of patients with this disease, so that children suffering from this disease can be benefitted.
