A bill to lead to raising the minimum age of marriage for women from 18 years to 21 years was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The Bill was sent to the Parliamentary Fennel amid heavy protests by the opposition members. While introducing the Child Marriage Prohibition Reform Bill 2021, Union Minister Smriti Irani had requested the Speaker of the Lok Sabha to send this bill to the Parliamentary Fennel. Earlier, Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani had introduced the Child Marriage Prohibition Bill in the Lok Sabha. In which instructions have been given to increase the age of marriage for women from 18 years to at least 21 years.
In the Lok Sabha, the Congress, Trinamool Congress, DMK, Biju Janata Dal, Shiv Sena and many other opposition parties strongly opposed the Child Marriage Prohibition Bill. Objections were raised by the opposition members that the Bill was made in haste and that it was not even discussed with the parties concerned. Once the bill is passed, the age of marriage for women will be the same as that of men. Apart from this, the Home had also sent the Chartered Accountants, Cost and Works Accountants and Company Secretaries (Amendment) Bill for the consideration of the Standing Committee amid discussions by the opposition members. However, due to the commotion in the house, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 11 am.
The Election Act Amendment Bill was also passed by the Rajya Sabha amid the uproar of the opposition. Talking about the uproar of the opposition in this regard, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said that many cases of fake voters are coming to the fore. Earlier, they did not have any system to eliminate such fake voters. But there is no need to oppose the water that is available.
