BJD MP Mamata Mohanta Resigns From Rajya Sabha: BJD MP Mamata Mohanta resigns from Rajya Sabha membership, may join BJP

New Delhi. After losing power in Odisha, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has suffered another setback. The party’s Rajya Sabha MP Mamta Mohanta has resigned from the Rajya Sabha membership. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar has also accepted Mamta Mohanta’s resignation. Along with this, Mamta Mohanta has also resigned from the primary membership of BJD. There is speculation that Mamta may soon join BJP.

Mamata Mohanta, while sending her resignation to BJD President Naveen Patnaik, said that Biju Janata Dal no longer needs me. I am a public servant and serving people is my goal, so I no longer need to be in that party, that is why I have resigned from the Rajya Sabha membership along with the primary membership of Biju Janata Dal. At the same time, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar confirmed the resignation of BJD MP Mamata Mohanta and said that Mamata has personally written a letter and submitted her resignation. I found her resignation constitutionally correct and therefore accepted her resignation.

Mamata Mohanta was elected as a Rajya Sabha MP in the year 2020. Today, she informed about her resignation through a social media post. Addressing BJD national president and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, she wrote, I express my gratitude to you for sending me to the Rajya Sabha to serve the people of my area Mayurbhanj and giving me an opportunity to take Odisha’s issues to the national level. But I do not feel that the party needs me or the people of my community anymore, due to which I am forced to take this tough decision.
