Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday hit out at the BJP, saying the party will ‘riot’ two days before the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 17. Banerjee said that ‘Lord Ram does not ask you to riot, but these people will riot…’. Referring to the arrival of the investigating agency in the state on Saturday for investigation, the TMC supremo also said that the BJP will create ‘riot’ by sending the National Investigation Agency (NIA). A team of NIA officers had gone to the house of a Trinamool Congress leader in Bhupatinagar in East Midnapore, West Bengal on Saturday morning to investigate the 2022 blast case.
He was attacked by the villagers and bricks were thrown at a car of the investigating agency team. While addressing the public in Purulia, Mamata Banerjee said, ‘Do rallies and meetings but do not riot. It is they (BJP) who will create riots. Voting is on 19th April and they will riot on 17th April. Lord Ram does not ask you to riot, but these people will riot and by rioting they will allow NIA to enter the state. TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee also threatened to expose the ‘conspiracy of the BJP’ and their ‘nexus with the NIA’.
Mamata Banerjee’s allegation
NIA officials on Saturday arrested two local TMC leaders, Manobrata Jana and Balachandra Maiti, in connection with the 2022 blast case in Purba Medinipur district. Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had raised questions on the arrest of TMC leaders by the investigating agency ‘just before the elections’. TMC supremo said, ‘Why did they raid at midnight? Did he have police permission? The local people reacted in the same way as they would have if any other stranger had come to that place in the middle of the night. Why are they arresting people just before the elections? Does BJP think that it will arrest every booth agent? What rights does NIA have? They are doing all this to support BJP. We appeal to the whole world to fight against this dirty politics of BJP.
From Ram Mandir to Article 370, from Sushil Modi to Nitish Kumar’s efforts, what did PM Modi say in the Bihar assembly?
NIA’s clarification
While the NIA denied the allegations of ‘illegal action’. The investigating agency made it clear in a press release that its actions were authentic, legitimate and legally mandated. The raid was conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into a heinous crime related to the manufacturing of country-made bombs. There was an explosion in Naruabila village of Bhupatinagar police station in East Medinipur district in West Bengal, in which three people died.
