BJP has emerged as the largest party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
New Delhi: The results of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 surprised everyone. On one hand, the India Alliance performed well in this election. On the other hand, the BJP-led NDA alliance also crossed the magical figure of 272 for absolute majority. NDA has got 292 seats. Whereas, the constituent parties of the India Alliance won 234 seats. At the same time, others got 17 seats. BJP has emerged as the largest party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. BJP has won 240 seats. However, it is 63 seats less than 2019. Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has registered a historic record in its name.
Modi will equal Nehru by taking oath for the third time
The BJP-led NDA government is going to be formed for the third term. With this, Narendra Modi will equal Jawaharlal Nehru’s record by taking oath as the Prime Minister for the third consecutive time. Congress has ruled the country for the longest time. But, according to the Election Commission’s data, the Congress party has not been able to touch the BJP’s figure of 240 in the last three decades. According to the Election Commission, in the 1989 Lok Sabha elections, Congress got only 197 seats. At that time, Congress contested the elections under the leadership of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. In the 10th Lok Sabha elections held in 1991, Congress won 232 seats.
- In the 1996 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee won 161 seats and the Congress won 140 seats.
- In 1998, once again BJP emerged as the largest party with 182 MPs out of the total 543 Lok Sabha seats. At the same time, the country’s oldest party Congress got 141 seats.
- In the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, BJP won 182 seats and Congress’s seats decreased to 114.
- In the 2004 elections, Congress came to power and ran the government under the UPA alliance. However, Congress got only 145 seats in the elections.
- In 2009, Congress came back to power and the party won 206 seats. However, Congress’s figure was also far behind BJP’s 240.
- In 2014, BJP contested the elections under the leadership of Narendra Modi and the party alone won 282 seats. On the other hand, Congress was reduced to just 44 seats.
- In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won a record-breaking 303 seats. Congress managed to win only 52 seats. Not only this, Congress barely became the main opposition party.
- The results of the Lok Sabha elections held this year have also come out. BJP has got 240 seats. Whereas, Congress could get only 99 seats.
