Earlier, Bhanu Prakash has also held the post of state vice-president and district president of the party. Bhanu Prakash led the protest in Shivamogga and addressed the workers. Giving information about the incident, the police said, “He suffered a heart attack while sitting in his car and fell unconscious. He was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, but he could not be saved.”
Prices increased after elections
The protests are happening after the Congress government in Karnataka increased the sales tax on petrol and diesel to 29.84 percent and 18.44 percent respectively. After this revision, the prices of petrol and diesel in the state increased by about Rs 3 and Rs 3.05. Also, these revised prices came into effect with immediate effect from June 15. It is worth noting that Karnataka has become the first state to revise fuel prices after the Lok Sabha elections.
The state president had called for a demonstration
Protesting against the price hike, BJP state president BY Vijayendra had said on June 15 that the party would hold a statewide protest on Monday (June 17) against the government’s decision. Bhanu Prakash was participating in this protest on Saturday against the Congress government in the state. After the protest, he fainted while sitting in his car. After this, BJP workers rushed him to a private hospital, but doctors there declared him dead. After this, the body was sent to his native place Muttur. Bhanu Prakash, an RSS worker, served as state BJP vice-president.
‘Worked for BJP till my last breath’
Addressing the media, Karnataka BJP chief B.Y. Vijayendra said he was shocked by the sudden demise of Bhanu Prakash, an RSS loyalist who worked hard to strengthen the party in the state. “Bhanu Prakash worked for the BJP till his last breath. His demise is a big loss to the party.” “We urge the chief minister to immediately withdraw this decision. We have organised protests across the state yesterday and will not sit quiet until this hike is withdrawn,” the BJP state president added.
Meanwhile, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah defended the government’s decision. He said fuel prices are still lower than Maharashtra and other states.
