Itanagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday expelled 28 dissident party leaders from Arunachal Pradesh. These leaders had contested the assembly elections against the party’s official candidates on April 19 after being denied tickets. According to a statement issued by the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the BJP’s state disciplinary action committee, headed by Tar Tarak, said the leaders have been expelled from the party for six years. The now expelled leaders had contested the assembly elections on tickets of National People’s Party (NPP), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), People’s Party of Arunachal and independent candidates.
10 BJP candidates were elected unopposed
Let us tell you that NPP is led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangam is doing. The ruling BJP had fielded 60 candidates on all the assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh, out of which 10 were elected unopposed. Prominent leaders who won without a contest include Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chauna Mein, Techi Kaso, Jikke Takko, Nyato Dukam, Muchu Mithi and Dasanglu Pul, among others. Assembly and Lok Sabha elections were held simultaneously in the first phase on April 19 in the BJP-ruled state. The results of the assembly elections will be declared on June 2, while the results of the Lok Sabha elections will be declared on June 4.
Congress was reduced to only 4 seats in 2019
Talking about the assembly elections held in 2019, BJP performed brilliantly and won 41 out of 60 seats. At the same time, Congress, which won 42 seats in the 2014 elections, was reduced to only 4 seats in 2019. In 2019, JDU stood second in terms of seats, contesting 15 seats and winning 7 seats. This was the first time that JDU had won an assembly seat in Arunachal Pradesh. Apart from this, National People’s Party had won 5 seats and People’s Party of Arunachal had won one seat.
