Voting will be held for 10 Lok Sabha seats of Haryana on May 25. The politics here is constantly changing colors. Sometimes the ruling party appears to be dominating and sometimes the opposition appears to be dominating. In Haryana, BJP faces the challenge of maintaining its win record on all 10 seats, while the opposition is making every possible effort to open its account here. Similarly, the election contest on Gurugram Lok Sabha seat of Haryana has become very interesting.
Bharatiya Janata Party-BJP has again fielded sitting MP Rao Inderjit Singh on Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat. In front of him are film actor Raj Babbar on Congress ticket and Rahul Yadav Fazilpuria from Jannayak Janata Party-JJP. A total of 23 candidates are currently in the fray for the Gurugram Lok Sabha seat.
Rao Inderjit Singh has been elected MP from Gurgaon seat three times consecutively. In 2009, he won the election on Congress ticket. In the 2019 elections, Rao Inderjit Singh defeated Captain Ajay Singh of Congress by 4,95,290 votes. Inderjit Singh got 8,81,546 lakh votes. Talking about 2014 elections, at that time BJP candidate Rao Inderjit Singh had got 6,44,780 votes. Indian National Lok Dal candidate Zakir Hussain got 3,70,058 votes. In the 2009 elections, Rao Inderjit Singh defeated Zakir Hussain of Bahujan Samaj Party by 84,864 votes. At that time Rao Inderjit Singh was in Congress and BJP candidate Sudha Yadav came third with 1.25 lakh votes.
Raj Babbar is also an experienced politician. He has been a member of Lok Sabha thrice and Rajya Sabha twice. Raj Babbar is facing challenges like lack of strong organization of Congress along with BJP.
Gurugram Lok Sabha seat
Gurgaon Lok Sabha constituency existed since its first election in 1952, but was abolished in 1977. The Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat came into existence again in 2008 following the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission.
Gurgaon Lok Sabha constituency consists of three districts: Gurugram, Nuh and Rewari. There are total 9 assembly seats in this Lok Sabha. Of these, BJP and Congress have 4 seats each and an independent MLA is on one seat.
Congress has an MLA in Rewari assembly in Rewari district and BJP has an MLA in Bawal.
There are BJP MLAs in Gurugram, Sohna and Pataudi in Gurugram district and independent MLAs in Badshahpur. Congress has captured three seats of Nuh district, Nuh, Punhana and Firozpur Jhirka.
Dominance of Punjabi and Muslim voters
The number of Muslim voters in Punhana, Firozpur Jhirka and Nuh falling in Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat is more than 4 lakh. Gurugram is the stronghold of Punjabis and there are good numbers of Punjabi voters in Badshahpur and Sohna also. BJP has a good penetration in Punjab society. Now Raj Babbar, being a Punjabi and a successful actor, is making inroads into the Punjabi society.
