Mamata Banerjee got a very big shock from the Calcutta High Court. The High Court handed over the case of the rape and murder of the doctor to the CBI. The Kolkata Police has been ordered to immediately hand over all the documents related to this case to the CBI. The CBI has started investigating this heartbreaking case without any delay. This decision of the High Court is not a shock for Mamata Banerjee’s government only because the investigation of this case has been handed over to the CBI. This is a bigger problem for Mamata Banerjee because the High Court also expressed doubts that the way the Kolkata Police is investigating, there is a danger of destruction of evidence. Mamata’s police had no answer to all the questions of the court. The court asked on what basis did the police initially call it a case of suicide? The court asked how did the police, after arresting one accused, believe that there was only one person who brutally raped and murdered the girl? The police kept interrogating many people, but why did they not interrogate the principal of the medical college? The High Court expressed surprise that when the principal of the medical college resigned due to public outrage, how did the government appoint him as the principal of another medical college on the same day without any delay? The court was so upset with Mamata Banerjee’s government that it had to say that if the principal is not sent on leave within the next two hours, then the court will have to do this.
The parents of the rape-murder victim doctor have lost their only daughter in this heinous massacre. They had knocked the door of the High Court and demanded an investigation under the supervision of the court. Many PILs were also filed in this case. All the applications were heard together in the High Court. The division bench of Calcutta High Court Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam said that the police was investigating this case for five days, but has not yet reached any conclusion. Kolkata Police said that one person has been arrested, statements of more than 35 people have been recorded. But the court asked whether the statement of the Principal of the medical college has been taken among these 35 people? Did the police call Principal Sandeep Ghosh for questioning? The answer was no. The court said that if the police did not question the principal of the college where the girl was raped and murdered, then it is not difficult to guess how the investigation is going on. The surprising thing is that when the court asked for the case diary from the police, the police could not even provide that. The court asked that there were injury marks on the girl’s body, blood was coming out, then why did the police call it a case of suicide before the postmortem report came? The police had no answer to this. The court said that if this case remains with the police now, then there is every possibility that the evidence will be destroyed, so this case should be immediately transferred to the CBI.
The court ordered that the police should hand over the case diary of this case to the CBI by evening and give all the necessary documents of the case to the CBI by Wednesday. The High Court said that no action was taken against the Principal of the medical college, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh. Due to public outrage, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh resigned but soon after that the government made him the principal of another medical college. What message does the government want to give by taking this decision? The court said that Dr. Sandeep Ghosh should be sent on leave immediately. If he is not sent on leave in the next two hours, the court will issue an order for this. The High Court said that looking at the attitude of the Kolkata Police, it seems that the evidence may be destroyed. The proof of why the High Court expressed this doubt was also found on Tuesday. As soon as the High Court’s decision came, shortly after that, shocking pictures came from RG Kar Medical College. The work of breaking the walls started near the seminar hall in which the doctor was murdered. A toilet has been built for the doctors near the seminar hall. Next to it is a rest room for resident doctors. The walls of this room were hammered on Tuesday.
Since the lady doctor’s body was found in the seminar hall, there were scratch marks on the body, blood was oozing out from the mouth and nose, the possibility of some evidence being found in the toilet cannot be ruled out. Anyway, the crime spot is sealed till the investigation is over, but the medical college administration hurriedly got the hammer used on Tuesday. That is why now allegations are being made that this could be an attempt to destroy the evidence before the CBI arrives. The court asked, how did the police reach the conclusion that this heinous murder was committed by just one person. These questions are important because looking at the condition in which the body was found, anyone could have said that this was not a case of suicide but murder. The postmortem report that has come gives goosebumps after reading it. There was a cut mark on the resident doctor’s neck. She was raped and then strangulated to death. The doctor’s neck bone was broken. There was a strong attack on her mouth due to which blood oozed out from her mouth and nose and after reading the postmortem report, what Dr. Suvarno Goswami claimed is enough to prove that not one but more than one criminal was involved in molesting the doctor. Dr. Suvarno Goswami said that in the postmortem report, semen of more than one person was found on the body of the lady doctor.
The Indian Medical Association has expressed satisfaction over the High Court’s decision. The IMA team met Health Minister JP Nadda and raised the issue of safety of doctors across the country. After the minister’s appeal, the doctors ended their nationwide strike. After the kind of brutality that happened with the doctor in Kolkata, it was expected from the police that they would try their best to catch the culprit in such a case. The one whose blood does not boil after seeing such cruelty, such a sin, is not blood, but water. But after the hearing in the High Court, it seemed that the Kolkata Police is trying to complicate the case instead of solving it. First they tried to prove it as a case of suicide, then ignored the postmortem report. An attempt was made to build the entire case around a single culprit. Whereas the doctor who did the postmortem says that more than one person was involved in this crime. In this case, it also seemed that an attempt was made to save the principal of the medical college.
The rest of the things can be considered as police negligence and insensitivity, but the transfer of the principal cannot be a police decision. Obviously, this was a political decision. That is why questions were raised on Mamata Banerjee’s government as well. It would be better if political parties do not do politics in this matter and wait for the CBI investigation. The only need is that CBI solves this case on a war footing, the doctor daughter gets justice, the beasts get such a punishment that the soul of the people watching and listening to it trembles. This is the demand of humanity. (Rajat Sharma)
