sheikh hasina
Dhaka: Due to the situation in Bangladesh, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to leave her post as well as the country. Sheikh Hasina is currently in India, and all kinds of reactions are being seen about this. In this sequence, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), a staunch rival of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party, said on Friday that the former Prime Minister’s decision to stay in India is entirely hers and the Indian authorities’, but warned that the people of Bangladesh will not see it in a good light.
‘The decision of Hasina herself and the Indian government’
“Right now, she (Hasina) is the most wanted in Bangladesh for a number of crimes ranging from killings and enforced disappearances to massive corruption,” Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior leader and party spokesperson Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury told PTI. Chowdhury said it was “the decision of Hasina herself and the Indian government whether she should stay in the neighbouring country or not.” He said the BNP had no locus standi on the issue.
What do the people of Bangladesh think?
“Still, the people of Bangladesh think that the Indian authorities should take their feelings into consideration,” said Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the BNP’s highest decision-making Standing Committee. “People (in Bangladesh) will not look at this (Hasina’s stay in India) in a good light,” Chowdhury said.
‘Adverse reaction is natural in Bangladesh’
Meanwhile, it should also be mentioned here that senior leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party said on Friday that India-Bangladesh bilateral relations do not depend on Awami League and “adverse reaction in Bangladesh is natural” on India giving asylum to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Senior Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader and former minister Khandker Mosharraf Hussain termed India as ‘very important’ for Bangladesh and said that ‘this is the right time to start a new chapter in bilateral relations.’ Hussain expressed hope that the Indian government will no longer continue to support Awami League and Sheikh Hasina, who has been forced to flee the country after massive demonstrations.
