New York. A major accident has occurred due to the collapse of a ferry (small passenger ship) platform on Sapelo Island in the American state of Georgia. In which at least seven people died.
A gangway at the pier collapsed after being hit by a boat on Saturday, Xinhua news agency quoted local media as saying. During this time the people who had gathered there to celebrate fell into the water.
Several people were hospitalized for treatment and others were being searched for, according to Georgia Department of Natural Resources spokesman Tyler Jones.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said on the social media platform XPost that he and his family are saddened by the tragedy on Sapelo Island. State and local rescue teams are responding to this incident, so we ask Georgians to join us in praying for those who are lost and those who are still in danger. Pray for their families.
