Mumbai . The Bombay High Court will hear on Tuesday on his petition demanding the cancellation of the FIR lodged against Stand-Up Comedian Kunal Kamra. Justice Sarang Kotwal and Justice SM Modak’s bench agreed to hear Kamra’s plea on Tuesday and accepted his petition in view of the threats to kill him allegedly.
The High Court first had to hear Kamra’s petition on April 21, but on his request, the court ruled to hear on Tuesday.
Kunal Kamra demanded the cancellation of the FIR lodged against him on the basis of freedom of expression under Articles 19 and 21 of the Indian Constitution.
Let me tell you, three separate cases have been registered against Cumidian Kunal Kamra at Khar police station in Mumbai. In these three cases, complaints have been transferred to Khar police station in Mumbai under Zero FIR from various places in Maharashtra. The FIR was registered from Buldhana, Nashik and Thane districts and is now being investigated by Khar police station in Mumbai.
According to Mumbai Police, Kamra is alleged to have made objectionable comments against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Khar police is investigating these cases.
In this regard, Kunal Kamra has been called for questioning three times, but he has not appeared in the police station.
According to police sources, the complaint claimed that Kamra sang a parody song taunting Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The complaint was filed by Rupesh Mishra, a member of the Yuva Sena. The police registered a non-cognizable offense. The police have already registered a case against Kamra under Section 356 (2) (defamation) of the Indian Code.
Kamra has been issued summons three times. However, he did not appear. According to information received from Khar police station in Mumbai, Kamra is not in contact with the police since the second summons was sent.
Khar police have interrogated many people associated with Habitat Studios and have recorded their statement. Other people associated with the case are being questioned.
