Varanasi. The central government has given another gift to Varanasi, which includes the Signature Bridge on the Ganga River at a cost of Rs 100 crore. It has received the approval of the central government. After Patna, the Signature Bridge to be built in Varanasi will have a six-lane road and four rail tracks will also be laid below for trains. It is being told that trains will be able to run at a speed of more than 100 kilometers on this track. The six-lane road of the new bridge will make the journey from Varanasi to West Bengal via Chandauli, Bihar easier. Rs 300 crore has been approved for the redevelopment of Kashi station to which the Signature Bridge will be connected.
Signature Bridge is a part of ‘Parivahan Sangam’, the first public transport platform of its kind in the country, to be built in Varanasi. Public transport facility will be available at the Parivahan Sangam site through road, rail, ferry service in Ganga and ropeway. NOC has been received from railways, PWD, Nagar Nigam, Jalkal for this project. Work will start soon.
The Signature Bridge will be built parallel to the 1887 Malviya Bridge of Varanasi, Rajghat, and with the new Inter Model Kashi Station as its center. The current two-floor Malviya Bridge has two railway tracks and a four-lane road. Trains pass through it at an average speed of 25 to 30. The new bridge, which will be completed in four years, will be twice the speed of the current Rajghat Bridge, so more vehicles will be able to run at a time, and four trains will be able to pass through the up and down lanes at three times the speed.
Rajghat Bridge or Malviya Bridge built during the British rule is called the backbone of Banaras. While this bridge easily connects the cities on the banks of Ganga, many employment options are also easily available. In such a situation, a new bridge on this route will give another boost to the development of Banaras.
