New Delhi. Delhi High Court on Friday slammed the Arvind Kejriwal-led government for not supplying books to children studying in MCD schools. The High Court clearly said that by not resigning from the post of Chief Minister despite being in jail, Kejriwal has put his personal interest above the national interest. A division bench of Delhi High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Manmohan Singh and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora made this comment while hearing a PIL raising the issue of poor condition of MCD schools due to the deadlock in the civic body.
The court said that the Delhi government is only ‘interested in remaining in power.’ The High Court further said that till now it has emphasized that national interest is ‘above all’, but the present case has exposed what was ‘wrong’ in it and it will pass orders in the matter on Monday. The High Court bench said, ‘I am sad to say that you have put your interests above the interests of the students and the children studying. It is very clear and we are going to conclude that you have put your political interest higher…It is very unfortunate that you have done this. This is wrong and this has been highlighted in this case.
The High Court said, ‘I don’t know how much power you want. The problem is that you are trying to grab power, that is why you are not getting power. The High Court asked whether the Chief Minister personally wanted the administration to become ‘paralysed’. The bench further said that the persons leading will have to ‘take everyone along’ as it cannot be a case of ‘domination by one person’.
Delhi government’s lawyer said that he is not appearing on behalf of the Chief Minister. He assured the court that if the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner makes a formal request for financial sanction, the issue of non-supply of educational material would be resolved even in the absence of the civic body’s standing committee. Justice Manmohan also commented on the conduct of Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj and said that he has turned a blind eye to the plight of the students and is shedding crocodile tears.
