The Union Cabinet on Friday approved metro rail projects in Pune and Thane in Maharashtra and Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, which are going to have assembly elections. According to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, two corridors of Bengaluru Metro Rail Project Phase-3 have been approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Bhasha news, in a statement, the government said that the Cabinet approved the Swargate to Katraj underground line extension of the existing PCMC-Swargate Metro Line of Pune Metro Phase-1 Project.
Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail project also approved
According to the news, this new extension is known as Line-LB Extension and it will stretch for 5.46 km and will include three underground stations, connecting major areas like Market Yard, Bibwewadi, Balaji Nagar and Katraj suburbs. The statement said that the Union Cabinet also approved the Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project. This 29 km corridor will run along the periphery of the western part of Thane city with 22 stations. This network is surrounded by the Ulhas River on one side and Sanjay Gandhi National Park on the other.
Will help in reducing greenhouse gas emissions
The project is expected to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the statement said. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 12,200.10 crore, which includes equal share of the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra as well as partial funding from bilateral agencies. The metro projects in Thane and Pune have been approved a few months before the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Approval for Phase-3 of Bangalore Metro
Cabinet approves two 44.65 km long corridors with 31 stations in Phase-3 of Bengaluru Metro Rail Project. The statement said that the total project completion cost of Phase-3 is Rs 15,611 crore, which is to be commissioned by the year 2029. The statement said that the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved the third phase of Bengaluru Metro Rail Project which will have two elevated corridors with 31 stations and 44.65 km long.
