Can Diabetic Person Donate Blood: Diabetes is a serious disease in which a person’s blood sugar becomes uncontrolled and due to this the organs of the body start getting damaged. This disease cannot be completely cured through treatment, but can be controlled through medicines and insulin. In diabetes, the whole matter is of blood sugar. Often many viral and bacterial infections including HIV can reach from one person to another through blood, but can this happen in diabetes as well? Let’s try to know the reality from the doctor.
Dr. Sonia Rawat, Director, Preventive Health Department, Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi, told AnyTV That diabetes cannot be spread through blood. Diabetes is a metabolic disease, which is caused by a lack of insulin production in the body or the inability to use insulin. This disease is not spread by virus or bacteria, but it can be caused by genetic, lifestyle and environmental factors. There is a risk of spreading infection through infected blood during blood transfusion, but this does not happen due to diabetes.
Now the question is whether diabetes patients can donate blood? On this, Dr. Sonia Rawat said that diabetes patients can donate blood, but before that many things have to be taken care of. Diabetes patients whose blood sugar is under control and they do not have any other disease, then in such a condition they can donate blood. If a patient’s diabetes is uncontrolled or he has any other disease, then blood donation is not recommended. Diabetes patients should consult a doctor and get themselves examined before donating blood.
According to health experts, the sugar level of a diabetic patient should be normal at the time of blood donation. Diabetic patients are not considered suitable for blood donation if they have high or low blood sugar. The blood donor should be in good health and should not have any complications. If the blood donor is taking diabetes medicines, it should be ensured that the medicines do not have any side effects on blood donation. Diabetic patients must consult their doctor before donating blood.
