New Delhi. The incident of power outage at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday has disturbed the sleep of the common people as well as the government. If sources are to be believed, after the incident at IGI Airport, special attention is being paid to the railways and Delhi Metro. If the officials of the Ministry of Energy are to be believed, the incidents of tripping have increased in the country due to the severe heat wave. However, there is no shortage of power generation anywhere. But, due to lack of resources and employees, the power crisis may deepen in states like UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Because, the power consumption in these states has suddenly increased.
If we talk about the incident of power failure at IGI Airport, it has been found out. Dial has said that the voltage on the grid increased due to tripping in the 765 kilowatt line. Due to this, the main receiving substation of the airport shut down. After this incident, fear has been created in the minds of the people that is the power situation in the country not good? Is the situation of India also going to be like Pakistan?

Let us tell you that India is constantly progressing in the field of electricity. Yes, the severe heatwave in most parts of the country has increased the consumption of electricity manifold. People are facing problems due to lack of resources in different states. It takes several hours to replace a transformer after it burns, due to which people are getting troubled. This situation is more or less the same in every state.
The Ministry of Power has set a target of 1900 billion units (BU) of electricity generation for the year 2024-25. That is, about 9.3% more than the actual production of 1738.828 BU last year. Despite this, the situation is becoming dire. During the year 2023-24, the electricity generation in the country was 1738.828 BU. Electricity consumption has increased in states like Delhi-NCR, Haryana, UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Assam and Odisha.
In the financial year 2024-25, the total annual electricity consumption in India has crossed about 1400 billion kilowatt hours (kWh). This is the first time in the country that electricity consumption has increased during the day as compared to night. Maharashtra remains at the first place among the states consuming more electricity. Gujarat is at number two and after this states like UP, Tamil Nadu and Odisha are at the forefront of electricity consuming states. Whereas, in states like Bihar also, annual electricity consumption has increased by 50 to 100 BU. In the last 10 years, electricity consumption in Bihar has increased by about 400 percent.

At present, Indians consume less electricity as compared to other countries. The per capita electricity consumption in the world is 3130 KWH (Kilo Watt Hour). Whereas in India the electricity consumption is only 1,181 KWH (Kilo Watt Hour). Even now, Bihar has the lowest per capita electricity consumption in the country. Where this figure is 311 KWH (Kilo Watt Hour). While after Bihar, Assam is at the second position. Per capita electricity consumption in Assam is 341 KWH (Kilo Watt Hour). In Goa, a family consumes the highest amount of electricity in the country, around 267.3 kWh every month.
